Folding Arm Awnings can be described as a Mediterranean style awning, which incorporates the added benefit of retracting back to the wall when not in use. These awnings can be manually operated with a crank handle (up to 6m wide) or a motorised control with a motion wind sensor for safety at any width.
The motion sensors and motors are made by Somfy and can be controlled by remote control or a hard wired wall switch. There are several models including fully cassetted units where the fabric disappears into a discrete cassette mounted to the wall. There are also semi cassetted units or the recommended open units where the mechanism is exposed but generally covered by a colorbond pelmet for aesthetics and protection. The open units are of commercial quality and provide excellent reliability and value for money in all settings.
A valance is also available for these awnings to ensure they add aesthetic value to your home or commercial property. Folding Arm Awnings are suitable for most walls as long as they are approximately 3m. The maximum width of a Folding Arm Awning is 12m and its maximum projection is 4m. The width of a Folding Arm Awning must be at least 40cm wider than its projection for structural purposes. There are 5m projection models available, however their reliability is in question, as testing is still being completed and therefore we prefer not to use them.
The materials we use for our Folding Arm Awnings have been chosen on the basis of their versatility, shade provision, waterproof applications and visual appeal. They include Atmosphere awning fabric, Farrari Soltis awning fabric, Planosol.
A key consideration to bare in mind when installing Folding Arm Awnings is that blue board or cement sheet walls require a backing board to be fitted, which you can paint if you choose. This allows the awning to be fitted safely to any wall. In most circumstances Folding Arm Awnings can be fitted to brick and weatherboard walls immediately. To fit an awning in front of the gutter is possible through the fascia for houses with a tiled roof.
