Equipping YOU with shade to protect your family and employees from Australia’s threatening UV Rays

With Australia’s hot climate and our depleting ozone layer, shade has become a priority and needs to become an essential in every Australian home, business, park, BBQ area, school and child care centre.

2 in 3 Australians are diagnosed with skin cancer by the time they turn 70.

We are committed and dedicated to this cause, which is evident in the quality standards we uphold for every shade fabric we use. We ensure our shade fabrics:

  • Have a rating of around 90% or more for UV protection
  • Are renowned for weather resistance, durability and warranties
  • Are Australian made whenever possible

Yarra Shade Co is completely insured while on the job

Yarra Shade Co. carries a number of insurances to ensure that your project is secure. Our three varieties of insurance include:

  • Domestic Warranty Insurance for residential projects over $12,000
  • Structural defects insurance for commercial projects, and
  • $20M in public liability

We give expert advice by listening to you

Yarra Shade Co. take a 3 stage approach to all projects:

1. How do we install this to ensure long term safety? If we can’t achieve this, we won’t start.

2. How do we get the shade in the right place at the right time of the day? This most important factor is frequently overlooked.

3. How do we meet your aesthetic requirements?

We come to your place to hear and discuss your shade requirements to ensure we deliver the most appropriate shade product for your needs. This is often a 30 minute initial consultation.

We can create a 3D digital image of the completed job so you’ll know exactly what to expect, it will show the shade pattern throughout the day.

Measure and quote

Once you’re happy with the concept, we do our measurements for the project and take the details away to develop the most appropriate solution and quote. This takes a few days.

To ensure we comply with all building and construction laws and to stay up to date with latest news in the building industry, we are Members of the Master Builders’ Association of Victoria. For example this includes peer assessment, which is an indicator of quality workmanship and good business practices and frequent training.

Registered Building Practitioner

Most importantly, any shade sail or structure over 20 m2, 3.6m high or 2.5m forward from your house or non-permiable material (PVC) over 10m2 requires a building permit and only a registered builder can supply one. It is illegal for a shade sail to be installed by an operator who is not a registered builder with the Building Commission. Unless you are in a heritage, environmental overlay area, impacting your neighbour or the street scape, you shouldn’t require planning permission for residential installations. However, some council’s may request it depending on the shade sail.

Non-residential structures and shade sails over 20 m2, 3.6m high or of a non-permiable material require a building permit. Commercial installations requiring a building permit will generally also require planning permission.
